[SOLVED] Loading Failed Shimgvw.dll - Invalid Access to Memory Location

Windows Picture and Fax viewer creates this problem whenever it needs to re-register. You may find that your thumbnails are not working. You are not able to see the images in the Default Windows Picture and fax viewer. It's really frustating to see that nothing is happening with the picture and fax viewer. You may find solution to this problem on the microsoft website where they tell you to re- register but the fact is that sometimes the problem is even more complex. Neither it registers not it responds to the commands that we type in the RUN window.

Many of your images might be opening in paint or some else program, for that you need to change your default picture viewer. Right Click an image. Select Open with and click all programs. Now select Windows picture and fax viewer. Check mark on the option which says Always Use the Same Program to open this kind of File. Click apply and Ok.

When you try to register the SHIMGVW.DLL file, you will see the following error:-

" Loading Failed (shimgvw.dll) - Invalid Access to Memory Location"

Here are the steps you need to take to repair your windows picture and fax viewer-

1. Proceed to the following path: C:\WINDOWS\system32\
2. Find the file named - shimgvw.dll
3. Rename this file to anything for example MS_shimgvw.dll

 Now you need to add the original file once again to this folder. For this it can be done in two ways:-

1. Insert Your Windows XP CD.
2. Open the following path: X:\i386\SHIMGVW.DL_ %WINDIR%\SYSTEM32\SHIMGVW.DLL where X is your CD'd drive letter.
3. Copy the file named: shimgvw.dll.
4. Open this path in your computer:  C:\WINDOWS\system32\
5. Paste.

If you don't have windows XP CD, simply search it on the internet, there are many websites from which you can download this file. The file size is in KB's so it will download in seconds.

 Now, you need to register this file with windows RUN window.

1. Go to Start and Click on RUN. or Simply Press Windows Key + RUN.
2. Now, type the following lines into the RUN window.

 regsvr32 shimgvw.dll 
      
      3. Now, Hit Enter.
      4. A message appears saying " DllRegisterServer in SHIMGVW.DLL succeeded" 
      5. The problem is now Solved.
      6. Open any Photo with the windows picture and fax viewer. Thumbnails will also start working.
