How to compress files and folders in NTFS Volume

Compressing files and folders in NTFS Volume makes the system save the disk space as they decrease the size of the programs on the storage devices. However compression might result in potential loss of performance so you may not want to compress important files so that your performance level should be optimum.

Here are the steps as how to compress files and folders in the ntfs volume.

1. Simply right click the folder in the ntfs volume which you want to compress.
2. Click on properties.
3. Go to General tab and click Advanced.
4. Click to select the compress contents to save disk space and the click ok.
5. In properties dialogue box click ok.
6. Now It will apply attributes, before that in confirm attribute click the option you want.

Once you apply the compression the amount of space used by the folder will be reduced.

Suppose you want to move some other file into the required folder, the file will be automatically compressed due to the attributes applied previously.

Same way you can compress the whole NTFS VOLUME.
